Natural cure for tonsillitis: what helps and when to seek care

Short answer
Natural measures can soothe tonsillitis, but they do not reliably clear every infection or replace an assessment when symptoms are severe.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What tonsillitis means
Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria such as the cause of Strep Throat. A sore throat, fever, swollen glands, earache, tiredness, and painful swallowing can occur. The appearance of the throat alone cannot always show which cause is present.
Rest, fluids, warm drinks, cool soft foods, and avoiding smoke may reduce irritation while the illness settles. Salt-water gargles may help some adults and older children, but they should not be swallowed. Do not give honey to babies.
What you can do
Take small, frequent sips to reduce the chance of dehydration. Choose foods that are easy to swallow and use age-appropriate pain relief only as directed on the label or by a clinician. A GP Consultation can check your throat and decide whether testing or Antibiotic Treatment is appropriate; antibiotics do not treat viral tonsillitis.
Avoid sharing cups and utensils, wash hands, and stay home while fever or significant symptoms continue. Do not scrape the tonsils or use concentrated oils and herbal products in the throat, because these can irritate tissue or interact with medicines.
When to seek care
Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, inability to swallow saliva, drooling, a muffled voice, marked one-sided throat swelling, difficulty opening the mouth, or rapidly worsening pain. These signs can indicate a complication rather than an uncomplicated sore throat.
Arrange medical advice if fever persists, symptoms are not improving, you cannot drink enough, or episodes keep returning. A clinician can assess Fever, Sore Throat, and Swollen Glands in context.
Questions for your doctor
Could this be viral or bacterial, and do I need a throat test? Which pain-relief options suit my age and medicines? How much should I drink, and when can I return to work or school?

Questions people ask
Can natural remedies cure tonsillitis?
They may ease discomfort while the body recovers, but they cannot be relied on to remove every cause of tonsillitis.
When might antibiotics be needed?
A clinician may recommend them when an assessment supports a bacterial infection; they are not useful for viral illness.
