What should you know about nasopharyngeal cancer age?

The nasopharynx is the upper part of the throat behind the nose. A tumour there can cause a blocked nose, nosebleeds, hearing changes, fluid behind an eardrum, headache or a lump in the neck. These symptoms are also caused by many non-cancer conditions, particularly infections and nasal inflammation.

Clinicians consider age alongside the symptom pattern, examination findings, medical history and test results. An age that feels unexpected should not delay review, and being older or younger does not by itself establish a diagnosis.

Book an appointment if nasal blockage, nosebleeds, one-sided hearing change, ear fullness or a neck lump persists or keeps returning. The assessment may include examination of the nose, throat and ears, imaging and a biopsy when a suspicious area needs confirmation.
