How Is Nail Psoriasis Treated?

Matrix involvement may cause pits and grooves; nail-bed involvement may cause thickening, colour change, or lifting. Fungus and injury can look similar, so examination and sometimes testing are useful. Discoloured Nails have several possible causes.

A prescribed medicine may be applied to the nail or nearby skin. A steroid injection into the skin beside an affected nail can suit a limited area. More extensive disease or joint symptoms may lead to discussion of biologic therapy or another systemic option. Keep nails short, avoid cuticle injury, and protect them from picking. Existing damage remains visible until healthy nail grows forward.

Arrange review for persistent or widespread changes. Seek prompt care for pus, warmth, rapidly worsening redness, a dark mark that does not grow out, or a painful swollen or stiff joint.

Ask whether this is psoriasis or infection, whether joints need screening, how to use treatment, and when an injection or biologic option is appropriate.
