What should you know about NAD vitamin infusion?

NAD refers to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a molecule involved in cellular energy processes. An infusion places a solution into a vein through a cannula. Products marketed as NAD drips may differ in their ingredients, concentration, preparation, and monitoring, so the name alone does not tell you exactly what you will receive.

Fatigue has many possible causes, including poor sleep, infection, medication effects, anaemia, thyroid disease, mood problems, or vitamin deficiency. An infusion does not show which cause is present. If testing confirms vitamin B12 deficiency or vitamin D deficiency, a clinician can discuss targeted treatment such as an injection, oral therapy, or supplementation according to the diagnosis.

Ask for the full ingredient list, the clinical reason for each ingredient, the person responsible for prescribing and monitoring, and what emergency support is available. Tell the clinician about allergies, pregnancy, kidney or heart problems, previous infusion reactions, and every medicine or supplement you use.

For ongoing fatigue, arrange an assessment that may include questions about sleep, diet, bleeding, mood, and activity, with examination or blood tests when appropriate. Do not use an IV drip to postpone evaluation of unexplained symptoms. A licensed clinician should check that an intravenous route is suitable and explain possible effects such as pain, bruising, infection, dizziness, nausea, or a reaction to an ingredient.

Get urgent help during or after an infusion for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or face, widespread hives, chest pain, fainting, severe dizziness, confusion, or rapidly worsening weakness. Contact a clinician promptly for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or pain at the cannula site, or for fever after treatment.
