Myoepithelial carcinoma immunohistochemistry uses a panel of stains to support diagnosis alongside biopsy appearance and clinical findings. No single stain can establish the diagnosis in every case, because these tumours can share features with other lesions.

The laboratory tests whether tumour cells carry selected proteins associated with myoepithelial or related cell types. The pathologist considers where the staining appears, how much tissue is involved and whether the pattern matches the cells' shape and arrangement under the microscope.

Markers may support a diagnosis, point toward a close alternative or show that the sample needs further work-up. The report therefore needs to be read as a combined interpretation rather than as a simple positive-or-negative result.

Ask for the complete pathology report and clarification of the marker panel, the microscopic diagnosis and the confidence of the interpretation. If the tumour is uncommon or the findings are mixed, your team may arrange review by a pathologist with relevant expertise.

Discuss how the tissue diagnosis connects with scans, tumour location and treatment planning. A second opinion can be useful when it would change the classification or management, but it should be arranged through your treating team.

After the biopsy, contact your care team for persistent bleeding, worsening pain, fever, drainage or increasing redness. Seek urgent help for sudden breathing difficulty, fainting or rapidly increasing swelling; these symptoms require assessment independently of the stain result.
