What should you know about mycosis fungoides on feet?

Foot involvement may appear between the toes, on the soles, around the ankles, or on the tops of the feet. Areas can be darker, lighter, redder, or violaceous than nearby skin, with dryness, scale, fissures, or thickening. Sweat, footwear, friction, and infection can create similar findings, so location alone cannot establish the diagnosis.

Keep the feet clean and dry, change damp socks, and avoid picking or using unprescribed strong creams before assessment. Photograph changes in consistent lighting and note whether they spread beyond the feet. A dermatologist may examine the whole body and biopsy a representative area. Treatment could include Topical Corticosteroids, Narrowband UVB Phototherapy, or PUVA Therapy depending on the skin pattern and extent.

Arrange prompt care for a foot area that rapidly enlarges, becomes very painful, ulcerates, bleeds, or interferes with walking. Seek timely advice for spreading skin changes, fever, persistent night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or enlarged groin nodes.

Ask whether the changes could be fungal, eczematous, contact-related, or mycosis fungoides, and whether a biopsy is appropriate. Ask how to care for fissured skin, what treatment to pause before light therapy, and how response on thicker sole skin will be judged.
