Why is my left eyelid droopy?

Dermatochalasis is excess upper-eyelid skin that can create a hooded appearance and sometimes narrow the visual field. Sagging skin is usually gradual, while a new or fluctuating droop may involve the eyelid muscle, nerve, swelling, or another eye problem. Compare old photographs and note pain, double vision, pupil changes, headache, or weakness elsewhere.

Do not rub or press the eye, and avoid driving if your vision is obstructed or doubled. Record when the drooping began and whether it changes with fatigue. Seek emergency care for sudden drooping with double vision, severe headache, unequal pupils, facial weakness, limb weakness, speech trouble, confusion, or eye pain.
