Muscle relaxant and pain killer medicines

A muscle relaxant is used for selected muscle tightness or spasm. A painkiller is chosen to reduce pain, but different painkillers have different actions and precautions. Relief does not identify the cause of pain, so ongoing symptoms may still need an examination.

Muscle relaxants can make some people sleepy, dizzy, or less coordinated. Depending on the product, a painkiller may affect the stomach, kidneys, liver, bleeding tendency, or alertness. Combining products can increase side effects, especially when several medicines contain the same pain-relieving ingredient.

Use only the prescribed or labeled dose and keep a list of every medicine, supplement, and cold remedy you take. Check with a pharmacist before adding a second painkiller. Avoid alcohol and driving until you know how a muscle relaxant affects you. Follow the planned duration rather than extending treatment because pain remains.
