A peel loosens some bonds between surface skin cells, allowing controlled shedding and a smoother appearance as the skin recovers. Formulas may contain acids such as glycolic acid, with the product and concentration chosen for the treatment area. Peels may be discussed for acne, comedonal acne, keratosis pilaris, uneven tone, sun spots, photoaging, and some pigment concerns such as melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
