What should you know about moyo fetal heart rate monitor?

A cardiotocograph, often called CTG, uses sensors on the abdomen to record fetal heart rate and contractions. A clinician considers the baseline rate, changes in the rate, movements, and the pattern over time rather than relying on one isolated reading. A non-stress test may be used when the baby is expected to move without contractions.

Signal quality can change when the baby moves or when the sensor shifts. The team may reposition the belts, ask about movement, or use another method if the trace is difficult to interpret. A monitor reading is one part of a broader assessment.

You may sit or lie on your side while the sensors are secured with elastic belts. Tell the midwife if you are uncomfortable, need to change position, or notice reduced movement. Ask what the test is checking, how long it may take, and when someone will discuss the result.

During labour, monitoring may be continuous or used at intervals depending on your circumstances and the maternity unit’s plan. Keep the tracing equipment dry and avoid moving the sensors yourself; call the team if they loosen.

Contact your maternity unit promptly if your baby’s movements are reduced or noticeably different from the usual pattern, or if you have vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, regular painful contractions, or severe abdominal pain. Do not wait for a home device or a scheduled appointment to reassure you.

Seek emergency help for heavy bleeding, collapse, severe breathing difficulty, or severe pain. A home heartbeat reading cannot replace an assessment when you feel unwell or movements have changed.

Ask: Why do I need monitoring today? Will it be intermittent or continuous? What does the tracing show? What happens if the signal is unclear? How should I report reduced movements after I leave?
