What should you know about Motrin for fever?

Motrin contains ibuprofen, which can reduce fever and discomfort when it is suitable for the person taking it. It treats the symptom rather than the infection causing the fever. Use the product label or a clinician's advice for the correct strength and dose, especially for a child.

Fever is part of the body's response to many infections. Ibuprofen may make someone feel more comfortable, but the temperature may rise again as the medicine wears off. Avoid ibuprofen in people with a previous serious reaction to it or other anti-inflammatory medicines, and seek advice for kidney disease, stomach ulcers, dehydration or medicines that affect bleeding. A clinician may also need to assess a painful red skin area, a barking cough or noisy breathing, which can occur with Cellulitis or Croup.
