Molar pregnancy signs

A molar pregnancy is abnormal growth of placental tissue. Possible signs include bleeding in early pregnancy, a uterus larger than expected, unusually severe nausea and vomiting, pelvic pressure, or passage of grape-like tissue. Some people do not notice a clear sign, and the condition is found during ultrasound or blood testing.

A symptom alone cannot identify the cause. Bleeding may have several explanations, and severe nausea can occur in other pregnancy conditions. The direction matters: a molar pregnancy can present with these symptoms, but these symptoms do not show that a person has a molar pregnancy.

Contact your maternity provider promptly if you notice bleeding, severe vomiting, unusual pelvic pressure, or tissue passing from the vagina. Assessment commonly includes an ultrasound and a blood test for human chorionic gonadotropin. If a molar pregnancy is diagnosed, a specialist explains removal and follow-up testing.

Write down when symptoms began, how much you are bleeding, and whether you can drink and pass urine. Do not insert anything into the vagina or take pregnancy medicines without advice while awaiting assessment.

Seek emergency care for heavy bleeding, collapse or faintness, severe pain, breathing difficulty, or vomiting with signs of dehydration.
