MMR and yellow fever vaccine: what to know

MMR helps prevent measles, mumps, and rubella. Yellow fever vaccination is used for protection against yellow fever, particularly when travel or entry requirements create a specific need. Receiving one vaccine does not replace the other. The decision can depend on previous doses, destination, age, pregnancy, immune health, allergy history, and medicines that suppress immunity.

Tell the travel clinic about every vaccine you have recently received. The clinician can check whether the vaccines should be administered during one visit or scheduled separately, and can explain any documentation needed for travel.

Take your vaccination record and travel itinerary. Mention pregnancy or plans for pregnancy, immune-system conditions, severe allergy to vaccine ingredients, recent illness, and regular medicines. Ask how long protection takes to develop and whether a certificate is relevant to your journey. Contact a healthcare professional promptly for a severe or persistent fever, worsening injection-site pain or swelling, confusion, a seizure, or a symptom that is rapidly getting worse. Mild local soreness alone is usually monitored.
