What should you know about mini C-arm fluoroscopy?

A mini C-arm is a mobile imaging unit with an X-ray source and detector arranged in a C shape. It produces real-time views while a clinician positions a joint, reduces a fracture or places hardware. The smaller format is often suited to extremities, although the exact use depends on the procedure and equipment. The images help the team confirm alignment during treatment; they do not replace the physical examination or every form of diagnostic imaging. Tell the team if you could be pregnant, have allergies or take medicines that affect bleeding. Remove jewellery or clothing that interferes with the area. During imaging, staff may position and support the limb while the machine is brought close to it. Keep still when asked, and follow instructions about eating, drinking and medicines if sedation or surgery is planned. After a procedure, seek prompt advice for increasing pain, a tight or soaked dressing, fever, new numbness, pale or blue fingers or toes, or inability to move them as instructed. After an injury, urgent assessment is needed when the limb is visibly deformed, cold, numb or impossible to use. The imaging method itself does not determine whether an injury is serious; symptoms and examination findings do.
