Mild Lamictal rash: what to know

Lamictal, also called lamotrigine, can be followed by a new rash. A rash may reflect a medication reaction, but other causes include [Contact Dermatitis](/conditions/contact-dermatitis/), heat, infection, or a pre-existing inflammatory skin condition. Colour, shape, timing, and associated symptoms all matter.

A clinician may ask when the medicine was started or changed, whether another medicine was added, and whether the rash is spreading. Do not label it as harmless from a photograph or a single symptom.

Contact the prescriber or an urgent medical service promptly and describe the rash, its location, and any new symptoms. Do not change the dose, restart the medicine, or substitute another seizure or mood medicine without explicit medical instructions. Keep a record of all medicines, supplements, and recent products used on the skin.
