What should you know about microneedling lips with hyaluronic acid?

Microneedling makes controlled, tiny punctures in the superficial lip tissue. Hyaluronic acid is a water-binding material used in some cosmetic products, and its role in this setting is usually hydration and surface comfort rather than the same kind of volume change associated with an injection. Results depend on the product, needle depth, skin condition, and technique.

This treatment is different from a hyaluronic acid injection, which places material below the surface with a needle. Lip skin is sensitive, and cold sores, active irritation, infection, or a healing wound may make treatment unsuitable until reviewed by a qualified clinician.

Tell the practitioner about cold-sore history, allergies, medicines, skin conditions, and previous lip procedures. Avoid arriving with active peeling, cracking, blisters, or infection. Afterward, use only the aftercare product advised, avoid picking or scrubbing, and protect the lips from heat, sun, and irritating cosmetics while the surface settles.

Mild redness, tenderness, dryness, or pinpoint bleeding can occur after needling. Do not share lip products during healing. Follow-up should assess the skin response before another session is planned.

Contact the treating clinician if swelling, pain, redness, warmth, or discharge is increasing rather than settling, or if blisters suggest a cold-sore flare. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, widespread hives, severe pain, or rapidly changing skin colour.
