Micellar water with hyaluronic acid: what to know

Micellar water contains cleansing molecules that surround oil, makeup, and everyday residue so they can be lifted from the skin with a cotton pad or soft cloth. Hyaluronic acid is a water-binding material used in skincare to support a more hydrated feeling. It is not the same as a hyaluronic acid injection used in a clinical treatment.

Formulas vary. Fragrance, preservatives, alcohol, and other added ingredients may matter more to irritation than the product name. Sensitive, dry, acne-prone, or eczema-prone skin may respond differently, and cleansing alone does not treat an underlying skin condition.

Apply the product gently without scrubbing, especially around the eyes. If the label says to rinse, rinse; if it is designed as a no-rinse cleanser, you may still prefer a water rinse when residue feels uncomfortable. Follow with a simple moisturizer if your skin feels tight, and use daytime sun protection as appropriate.

Patch-test a new product on a small area before applying it widely. Stop if you develop persistent burning, itching, swelling, rash, or eye irritation. Check the ingredient list when you have known sensitivities, and avoid using a product on broken skin unless a clinician has advised it.

Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, widespread hives, or severe eye pain or vision change. Arrange medical advice for a rash that spreads, blistering, signs of infection, or irritation that continues after stopping the product. A persistent skin problem may need diagnosis rather than repeated changes to cleanser.
