Medicine for upset stomach nausea

Nausea is the urge to vomit and may occur with indigestion, an infection, medication effects, motion, heat or low blood sugar. Food Poisoning and Gastroenteritis can bring nausea with diarrhoea or cramps. Acid Reflux and Gastritis may cause upper-stomach discomfort, while Gallstones can cause pain after eating. Heat Exhaustion and Hypoglycaemia need prompt attention because the wider illness matters more than simply suppressing nausea.

A clinician or pharmacist may recommend an anti-sickness medicine after checking your age, pregnancy status, other medicines and health conditions. Some products cause drowsiness or are unsuitable with alcohol or driving.

Take frequent small sips of water or an oral rehydration drink. When you can eat, try plain foods in modest portions and avoid rich, greasy or strongly scented meals. Rest somewhere cool if heat may be involved. Follow the label for any medicine and do not combine different anti-sickness products unless a professional has advised it. Record when nausea began, what you ate, and any pain, fever, diarrhoea or vomiting.

Seek urgent help for severe or worsening abdominal pain, confusion, fainting, stiff neck, blood in vomit, green vomit, or inability to keep fluids down. Get prompt advice for signs of dehydration, yellowing of the skin or eyes, suspected low blood sugar, or nausea that keeps returning. Children, older adults and pregnant people may need advice sooner.
