Measles vaccine: which month is it given?

Measles vaccination is commonly provided as part of the combined measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. Clinics choose timing to fit the child’s age, vaccine history, health needs, and the schedule used where the child receives care. A dose may also be advised outside the routine visit after travel, an outbreak, or a possible exposure. A late dose can still be useful; do not restart a series without clinical advice.

Look at the child’s vaccination record and contact the clinic that provides routine care. If a record is missing, tell the clinician what is known rather than guessing. They can review previous doses, explain whether another dose is appropriate, and consider pregnancy, immune conditions, severe previous reactions, or current illness before vaccination. After vaccination, seek urgent help for trouble breathing, facial swelling, collapse, or a rapidly worsening reaction. Contact a clinician promptly if fever or a widespread rash follows vaccination and the person seems very unwell.
