Measles vaccine in pregnancy

The measles component of MMR is a live vaccine, so pregnancy changes when it is offered. If you are pregnant and are unsure whether you are protected, do not arrange vaccination without medical advice. A clinician can review records and discuss alternatives for reducing exposure. Measles itself can cause fever, cough, red eyes and a spreading rash, and illness during pregnancy needs prompt assessment. Contact your maternity or medical team promptly after suspected measles exposure or if fever, cough or a new rash develops. Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, confusion, severe weakness, dehydration or a seizure. Phone before visiting a clinic so staff can reduce contact with others.
