Which disease does the measles vaccine prevent?

The measles component of the MMR vaccine targets measles, also known as rubeola. Measles can begin with fever, cough, runny nose and red or watery eyes, followed by a rash that often starts on the face and spreads. It is not the same illness as chickenpox, influenza or a routine skin allergy. Some people also develop swollen glands or feel markedly unwell.
