What should you know about measles in mouth?

Tiny bluish-white spots on a red background inside the cheeks may appear before or around the time of the skin rash. They are associated with measles, but mouth irritation can have other causes, so appearance alone cannot confirm the diagnosis. A rash often begins on the face or hairline and moves down the body. Fever and swollen glands may occur with the illness. Measles is highly contagious; avoid close contact with others while arranging advice.

Call a healthcare service before arriving if measles is possible, so staff can reduce exposure to other patients. Keep the person resting and offer frequent fluids if they can drink. Do not share cups, towels, or utensils. Record when fever, mouth spots, and any rash began, and mention recent travel, contact with illness, and vaccination history. A GP consultation can help assess the pattern and decide whether testing or further care is needed.

Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, confusion, a seizure, severe dehydration, inability to drink, or a rapidly worsening condition. Babies, people with weakened immunity, and anyone who is pregnant should receive prompt clinical advice after a possible exposure or new symptoms.
