What should you know about measles dose?

A dose record helps a clinician decide whether protection against measles is documented. Records may be held in a child health booklet, clinic system or vaccination certificate. A missing document does not necessarily mean a dose was missed, and an unclear memory should not be treated as proof of protection.

Measles itself causes an illness with fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes and a rash; vaccine-dose questions are separate from diagnosing those symptoms. Swollen glands may occur during infections but do not confirm measles.

Gather any paper and electronic records, then contact a [GP Consultation](/treatments/consultations-and-assessment/gp-consultation/) service or vaccination clinic. Tell them the person’s age, previous vaccine names, dates if known, medical conditions and any recent exposure. If measles is suspected now, call before attending and keep the person away from others while waiting for instructions. Do not share records publicly; take them directly to the healthcare team.

Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, a seizure, confusion, collapse, severe dehydration or unusual difficulty waking.
