Can measles be dangerous?

Measles commonly causes fever, cold-like symptoms and a spreading rash, but the infection can place strain on the lungs and body. Complications may include pneumonia, dehydration or inflammation affecting the brain. Risk is more concerning in very young children, during pregnancy and when immunity is reduced. A rash does not prove measles, yet fever with a new rash deserves prompt clinical advice.
