What should you know about masker hyaluronic acid?

A hyaluronic acid mask is a topical product intended to hydrate the skin; it is not the same as an orthopaedic injection or a treatment for deep joint pain. The mask may contain other ingredients, adhesives, fragrances or preservatives, so its effect and tolerability depend on the formulation. Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water at the skin surface, which can make skin feel temporarily more comfortable or supple. A mask does not deliver the same way as a clinician-administered [Hyaluronic Acid Injection](/treatments/non-surgical-orthopedics/hyaluronic-acid-injection/) and should not be applied to an open wound, infected area or fresh surgical site unless the care team specifically advises it.

If the concern is joint pain, swelling, stiffness or reduced movement, a cosmetic mask will not identify the cause. Keep skin care separate from rehabilitation, wound care and treatment instructions.

Read the ingredient list and follow the product directions. Test a small area first if your skin is sensitive, avoid the eyes and broken skin, and remove it if stinging or burning develops. Do not share a used mask. After orthopaedic surgery or injury, ask the treating team before putting any product near dressings, incisions or immobilisers.

Wash the product off and seek urgent help for facial swelling, wheezing, trouble breathing, dizziness or widespread hives. Obtain medical advice for persistent burning, blistering, spreading redness, discharge or increasing warmth. Joint pain with fever, major swelling, sudden weakness or inability to bear weight also needs clinical assessment rather than cosmetic care.

Ask whether the mask is suitable for your skin condition, wound or procedure, and which ingredients should be avoided. If you have pain beneath the skin or around a joint, ask what assessment is needed and whether a separate rehabilitation or medical treatment is appropriate.
