What should you know about a Marena arm compression garment?

A Marena arm compression garment provides graduated pressure and should be fitted and used as part of an individual lymphoedema plan. It may help manage swelling after cancer treatment or another disruption to lymph drainage. The brand name does not determine whether a garment is suitable; the pressure level, size, sleeve length, fabric, and condition of the skin matter.

Compression creates a controlled pressure gradient along the arm. With movement and other elements of care, this can support fluid movement and make swelling easier to manage. A garment should feel supportive without causing numbness, tingling, colour change, cold fingers, throbbing, or sharp pain. It is not a substitute for assessment of a newly swollen arm, because sudden swelling can have causes that need prompt attention.

Have the garment measured or checked by a trained clinician, especially after swelling changes. Put it on smoothly so there are no folds, tight bands, or rolled edges. Check the hand and fingers after wearing it, and inspect the skin when it is removed. Follow the recommended wearing schedule and washing instructions, allow the fabric to dry fully, and replace it when it loses shape or becomes damaged. Pair it with the movement, skin-care, and self-management steps in your plan.

Remove the garment and contact your care team if it causes persistent pain, numbness, pins and needles, marked colour change, coldness, skin breakdown, or worsening swelling. Seek urgent assessment for sudden one-sided arm swelling with chest pain, breathlessness, severe redness, fever, or a rapidly worsening condition. Do not force the garment over an injured or infected area without clinical advice.
