Which mosquito causes malaria?

Short answer
Malaria is caused by a bite from an infected female Anopheles mosquito carrying a Plasmodium parasite.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the bite causes illness
The mosquito acquires the parasite when it feeds on an infected person. During a later bite, the parasite can enter another person’s bloodstream, travel to the liver, and then multiply in red blood cells. Only an infected mosquito can transmit malaria; an ordinary mosquito bite does not automatically cause the disease.
Symptoms may include fever, chills, headache, tiredness, and muscle aches. These features do not identify malaria by themselves. A history of travel or residence in an affected region helps a clinician decide whether a blood test is needed.
Reducing mosquito-bite risk
Use a properly fitted insect repellent, cover exposed skin with clothing, and sleep under a mosquito net where appropriate. Screens, air conditioning, and reducing standing water around living areas can add protection. Follow product directions, particularly when applying repellent to children.
Before travel, book a travel health consultation. A clinician can review the destination, season, accommodation, and your medical history, then discuss whether malaria prophylaxis is suitable. Prevention tablets do not replace measures that reduce bites.
When to seek care
Contact a clinician urgently if fever, chills, or marked illness occurs during or after travel to a malaria-risk area. Go to emergency care for confusion, fainting, trouble breathing, a seizure, severe weakness, or inability to keep fluids down. Explain exactly where you travelled, since risk varies by location.
Questions for your doctor
What mosquito protection is practical for my trip? Do I need malaria prophylaxis? How long after returning should I watch for symptoms? Where can I obtain prompt blood testing if fever develops?
