What should you know about magnesium sulphate for cellulitis?

Cellulitis is an infection affecting the skin and tissues beneath it. It can begin through a small cut, bite, ulcer, or cracked skin. The affected area may become painful, hot, swollen, and red, and the edge can enlarge over time. A soak might make the area feel temporarily cleaner or more comfortable, but it cannot reliably clear bacteria from deeper tissue or show whether the infection is improving.

Arrange medical assessment promptly, particularly if the redness is expanding or you feel unwell. Follow any prescribed antibiotic instructions exactly and keep the area clean and protected. Marking the edge of redness with a pen can help you notice spread while waiting for advice, but do not press hard on the skin. Rest and elevate an affected limb if advised. Avoid squeezing, cutting, or repeatedly soaking the area; these actions can damage the skin and delay care.

Seek urgent care if redness is spreading quickly, pain is severe, fever or chills develop, red streaks appear, or the skin turns dusky, blistered, or numb. Emergency help is needed for confusion, fainting, breathing difficulty, or swelling of the lips or face. People with diabetes, poor circulation, immune suppression, or a recent operation should seek advice early when skin infection is possible.
