What should you know about magnesium kidney stones dissolve?

Kidney stones are mineral crystals that can irritate or block the urinary tract. Their composition differs, so a supplement that may influence one chemical process will not break down all stones. Magnesium products can also cause diarrhoea or interact with other medicines. Hydration supports urine flow, but forcing large amounts of fluid during severe pain or blockage can be unsafe without medical advice.

Arrange a GP consultation if you have recurring flank or abdominal pain, painful urination or blood in the urine. The clinician may use your history, urine checks and imaging such as an abdominal ultrasound to assess the stone. Drink normally unless advised otherwise, and follow the recommended pain plan. Do not rely on magnesium to delay an assessment or treatment.

Seek urgent care for fever or chills with urinary symptoms, severe or persistent pain, repeated vomiting, inability to pass urine, or feeling faint. A blocked urinary tract with infection can become serious. Prompt review is also needed if you have a single functioning kidney or known kidney disease.
