Magnesium citrate for kidney stones: what to know

Kidney stones differ in their mineral composition, size and location. Magnesium citrate may alter urine chemistry in selected situations, but it is not a substitute for identifying the stone and checking whether urine can drain. It can also act as a laxative, causing diarrhoea and fluid loss.

Discuss magnesium citrate before using it, particularly if you have kidney disease, take regular medicines or have had repeated stones.
