What should you know about lyophilized exosomes?

Exosomes are very small membrane-bound vesicles released by cells. Lyophilization, or freeze-drying, removes water to create a powder intended for storage and later reconstitution. The drying process does not make every product equivalent: contents, manufacturing controls, handling instructions, and intended use can differ between preparations.

A product's label may describe use on the skin, after a procedure, or another route. Those routes are not automatically interchangeable. Claims about repairing skin, improving scars, or supporting hair growth should be discussed carefully because marketing language may be broader than established clinical guidance.

Ask the provider to show the original packaging, ingredient information, batch details, expiry information, storage requirements, and instructions for reconstitution. Confirm who manufactured it, how sterility is maintained, and whether it is intended for topical use, injection, microneedling, or another procedure.

Tell the clinician about allergies, active eczema, infection, immune conditions, pregnancy, and medicines that affect healing. Do not use a vial that is damaged, cloudy after reconstitution, incorrectly stored, or past its stated use time. A trained clinician should explain alternatives and expected uncertainty before you consent.

After use, seek medical advice for worsening pain, spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, unusual swelling, blistering, or a rash that continues to expand. Urgent assessment is needed for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, fainting, severe eye symptoms, or sudden weakness.
