Lump on the Left Breast During Pregnancy

Pregnancy hormones increase blood flow and prepare the milk-making tissue, so breasts may feel fuller, nodular, or tender. A blocked duct, cyst, fibroadenoma, or infection can also cause a focal lump. A breast lump is a common presentation of breast cancer, and pregnancy does not make a new persistent lump impossible to assess.

The left-sided location does not identify the cause. Tell your clinician how far along the pregnancy is, whether the lump changes, and whether there is pain, redness, fever, nipple discharge, or an armpit swelling.

Arrange a breast assessment rather than repeatedly checking the area. Wear a comfortable supportive bra and avoid forceful massage. Mention pregnancy before any examination or imaging so the clinician can choose an appropriate approach. If breastfeeding or expressing milk, describe feeding patterns and any blocked-flow symptoms.

Contact your maternity or medical team promptly for a hot, red, swollen breast, fever, chills, or feeling unwell. Seek timely assessment for a hard or fixed lump, rapid growth, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, bloody discharge, or a new armpit lump. Do not postpone review until after delivery if the change persists.

Ask whether the lump could relate to pregnancy tissue, a blocked duct, infection, or another breast change. Ask which examination or imaging is suitable during pregnancy, what treatment options are compatible with it, and what follow-up is planned.
