Lump on the inner thigh under the skin with no pus

Pus is not required for a lump to be present. Repeated rubbing, sweating, shaving, or an ingrown hair can irritate a follicle before drainage appears. A cyst may remain closed, and a deeper lump may not involve the skin surface at all. Compare the lump with the surrounding skin: warmth, redness, tenderness, and rapid change suggest active inflammation, while a stable, smooth lump may behave differently.

A skin lump is a finding, not a final diagnosis. Most inner-thigh lumps are not identified from symptoms alone, and a persistent or changing surface should be examined, including to rule out uncommon lesions such as basal cell carcinoma.

Reduce friction with loose clothing, keep the area dry, and stop shaving directly over the lump until it settles. Do not squeeze or use a needle, since this can injure the skin and spread inflammation. Note its size, firmness, mobility, tenderness, and any change in colour. Arrange a clinical review if it lasts, recurs in the same area, or makes movement uncomfortable. Treatment may involve observation, care for inflammation, drainage, removal, or a selected steroid injection into the skin.

Seek prompt care if the lump grows quickly, becomes hot or very painful, redness spreads, or you develop fever, chills, or difficulty walking. Arrange timely review for a fixed lump, a lump that breaks the skin, or one that bleeds or repeatedly returns. Sudden severe pain with marked swelling needs urgent assessment.

Ask whether friction, an ingrown hair, cyst, or deeper tissue is most relevant; whether imaging or sampling is needed; how to prevent recurrence; and what changes should lead to urgent review.
