Lower stomach pain around ovulation

Ovulation pain may occur around the middle of a menstrual cycle, on one side of the lower abdomen, and last from minutes to a day or so. Some people notice light spotting or a change in discharge. The pain can switch sides between cycles. It should not be assumed to be ovulation when the timing is unclear or symptoms are unusual. Digestive conditions such as Diverticular Disease, Crohn's Disease, Food Poisoning, or Gastroenteritis can also cause lower abdominal pain, usually with bowel symptoms. Gallstones, Gastritis, Acid Reflux, and Coeliac Disease tend to cause symptoms elsewhere but can complicate the picture.

Note the date, side, duration, bleeding, discharge, bowel symptoms, urinary symptoms, and chance of pregnancy. Rest, gentle warmth, fluids, and light activity may help a mild familiar ache. Use pain medicine only as directed and check suitability with a pharmacist if pregnant, trying to conceive, or managing another condition. Arrange a routine review if pain recurs in a disruptive way, lasts beyond the expected window, or changes from your usual pattern.

Seek urgent care for sudden severe pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, a rigid abdomen, or pain with a positive pregnancy test or possible pregnancy. Prompt assessment is also needed for worsening pain, painful urination, or unusual discharge. These warning signs matter regardless of where you are in your cycle.
