What should you know about lower lid blepharoplasty with fat transfer?

An assessment looks at bags, loose skin, tear-trough hollows, eyelid position and the surface of the eye. Surgery may be performed through the inner eyelid or a skin incision, while transferred fat is placed in small amounts to contour a depression. Swelling, bruising, temporary dryness, blurred vision or uneven early healing can occur during recovery.

Tell the surgeon about eye disease, dry-eye symptoms, allergies, medicines, supplements and previous procedures. Arrange transport and help at home, follow the wound and eye-care instructions, keep your head raised as advised, and avoid rubbing the eyes. Do not restart blood-thinning medicines or strenuous activity until your surgical team gives specific guidance. Results settle as swelling changes, so early appearance is not the final assessment.

Contact the surgical team promptly for worsening pain, increasing redness, drainage, fever, inability to close the eye, new double vision or vision that becomes less clear. Sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, marked swelling on one side, or trouble breathing needs emergency care.

Ask which changes are caused by loose skin, bulging fat or a hollow; where the fat will be taken and placed; how dry eye will be managed; what incision is planned; which medicines to pause; and what follow-up schedule and activity limits apply.
