What should you know about lower-left abdominal pain during intercourse?

Pain near the entrance can differ from deep pain felt in the lower abdomen. Deep pain may change with position, depth of penetration, bladder fullness, or the time in the menstrual cycle. Pelvic floor muscle tightening, vaginal dryness, ovarian or uterine conditions, pelvic infection, bladder irritation, and bowel problems can contribute. Consider arranging a clinician or sexual-health review if pain recurs, affects intimacy, or follows a new sexual partner. They may ask about contraception, pregnancy possibility, infections, pelvic history, bowel habits, and medicines before deciding on an examination or tests.

Seek urgent medical care for sudden severe lower abdominal pain, fainting, dizziness, fever, vomiting, heavy vaginal bleeding, shoulder-tip pain, or possible pregnancy with pain or bleeding. Get prompt advice for pain with a new foul-smelling discharge, pain after an injury, or rapidly increasing abdominal swelling. Persistent pain that changes your sexual activity should be assessed even without an emergency sign.
