What should you know about long term complications of scarlet fever?

Scarlet fever is linked to a streptococcal throat infection. The rash and sore throat usually improve, yet immune reactions can appear after the initial illness. Joint pain or swelling, dark or reduced urine, puffiness around the eyes, unusual tiredness, breathlessness, or chest discomfort should not be dismissed as ordinary recovery.

A repeat fever, worsening sore throat, or swollen glands may mean the infection has not settled or another illness is present. The timing, severity, and treatment history help a clinician decide whether examination, urine testing, blood tests, or other assessment is needed.
