Recognising the pattern
Long COVID, also called post-COVID-19 syndrome, can affect daily life. People may notice Fatigue, Difficulty Concentrating, Joint Pain, Loss of Smell, Loss of Taste or Low Mood. Symptoms may fluctuate, and one person’s pattern may differ from another’s. These symptoms can have other explanations, so a clinician may review your history, medicines, sleep, mood and physical symptoms.
Managing symptoms
Record symptoms, activity and recovery time to identify patterns. Pace tasks, plan rest before exhaustion and increase activity gradually only when tolerated. Keep meals, fluids and sleep regular, and seek help for symptoms limiting work, study, movement or self-care. A GP can coordinate assessment and refer you for rehabilitation or targeted care.
When to seek care
Arrange an appointment for ongoing symptoms, a new symptom after recovery, or a worsening pattern. Seek urgent care for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, new confusion, weakness on one side or rapidly worsening illness.
