Little White Bumps on Skin That Itch

Bumps around hairs, especially after shaving, sweating, or friction, can fit Folliculitis. Fine itchy spots in a hot, occluded area may fit Heat Rash. Rough bumps on the outer upper arms or thighs can occur with Keratosis Pilaris, although this is often less intensely itchy.

Milia are usually firm and not itchy, so itch may suggest surrounding irritation or another diagnosis. Lichen Planus can cause a persistent distinctive rash. Use a gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, and a fragrance-free moisturiser. Keep the area cool and dry, wear loose breathable clothing, and avoid shaving or rubbing the affected skin until it calms. A cool compress can reduce the urge to scratch; keep nails short to limit skin damage.

Do not squeeze the bumps or start several medicated products at once. If itching continues, a pharmacist or clinician can advise whether Antihistamine Treatment is suitable. Cryotherapy (Lesion Removal) is reserved for selected diagnosed lesions and is not a general treatment for an undiagnosed itchy rash.

Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, or rapidly spreading hives. Get prompt care for fever, pus, severe pain, blistering, skin peeling, or involvement of the eyes or mouth.
