A clinician may consider an anti-sickness medicine that reduces signals to the vomiting centre, slows certain gut movements, or treats a specific trigger. Nausea can occur with reflux, stomach inflammation, infection, gallstones, heat illness, low blood sugar, or medication effects. Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, blood or green material in vomit, confusion, fainting, stiff neck, chest pain, or inability to keep fluids down. Prompt review is also needed with signs of dehydration, repeated vomiting, diabetes with low-sugar symptoms, or nausea during pregnancy that prevents drinking.
