What should you know about liposuction shapewear?

Liposuction removes fat through small openings, leaving treated tissue temporarily swollen and sensitive. A fitted compression garment can provide even support over the area and reduce rubbing from clothing. It should feel snug, not sharply tight. Shapewear does not remove additional fat, reshape an untreated area, or replace surgical follow-up. Your clinician may select a garment based on the body region, incision sites, and skin condition.

Wear the garment for the schedule given by your surgical team, and follow their instructions about removing it for bathing or changing dressings. Keep the fabric clean and dry, check your skin for pressure marks, and avoid folding seams over an incision. Gentle walking is often encouraged, but strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should wait until you are cleared. Contact the clinic if the garment causes numbness, cool skin, increasing discoloration, or pain that eases when it is removed.

Seek prompt medical advice for rapidly increasing swelling, spreading redness, foul-smelling drainage, wound separation, fever, or pain that is worsening rather than settling. Sudden breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, or coughing blood needs emergency care. A small amount of tenderness and uneven swelling can occur early, but your own surgeon should assess changes that are new, severe, or one-sided.

Ask which garment design and size suit your treated areas, how long to wear it each day, and whether you need more than one garment for washing. Clarify how to protect incision sites, when to resume exercise, and what amount of swelling is expected at your next review.
