What should you know about liposculpture fat transfer?

A surgeon first identifies a donor area with enough usable fat, such as the abdomen, hips or thighs. Fat is removed through small access points, prepared, and injected in small amounts into the planned recipient area. Facial fat grafting may be used for hollowing, contour changes or selected areas such as the cheeks or lips. The transferred fat needs to connect with its new blood supply, so some change during healing is expected and the final contour may take time to settle. The amount available and the recipient tissue both affect planning.

During consultation, discuss your desired shape, donor-site limits, medical history, smoking or nicotine use, medicines and previous procedures. Ask for a realistic recovery plan for both sites. Bruising, swelling, tightness and temporary unevenness can occur. Follow wound, compression and activity instructions, keep review appointments, and protect healing skin from pressure as directed. Depending on the goal, alternatives may include dermal fillers or a more focused injectable treatment; the choice depends on anatomy, volume needs and tolerance for surgery.

Contact your surgical team promptly for increasing one-sided swelling, spreading redness, wound drainage, fever, severe pain or a new area of skin discoloration. Seek urgent help for chest pain, difficulty breathing, faintness, confusion or sudden weakness. A rapidly enlarging, very painful swelling also needs assessment. Do not judge the final result while swelling is still changing; report concerning symptoms rather than trying to correct the area with massage or additional treatment.
