What should you know about linear lichen planus causes?

Lichen planus can produce firm, itchy, reddish-purple or brown bumps. In the linear form, lesions may follow a scratch, scar, or developmental skin line, a response sometimes described as a pattern triggered by local irritation. The underlying inflammation involves the skin’s immune response; it is not spread by touching another person. A medicine, infection, or contact exposure may be relevant in some cases, but many people do not find one clear trigger. A clinician may inspect the mouth, nails, scalp, or other skin because lichen planus can affect more than one site.

Avoid scratching, fragranced products, and unnecessary friction over the line. Keep nails short and use a plain moisturiser if the skin is dry. Photograph the rash and record new medicines or illnesses before it began. A clinician may recommend a topical corticosteroid to calm local inflammation; more extensive or stubborn disease may call for another approach, including oral corticosteroid treatment in selected situations. Treatment should match the diagnosis because several itchy bump conditions look alike.

Book an assessment if the line is spreading, intensely itchy, painful, blistering, or leaving marked darkening. Seek prompt care for sores in the mouth or eyes, difficulty eating, or a rash that begins soon after a new medicine. Rapid change or widespread involvement needs medical review rather than self-treatment.
