Light spotting 2 days after sex

A small amount of pink, red, or brown blood may appear after friction, dryness, or a sensitive cervix. Hormonal contraception, ovulation, or bleeding between periods can also make timing confusing. An infection such as chlamydia may cause bleeding with discharge, pelvic discomfort, or pain during sex. Cervical polyps, fibroids, and changes in cervical cells are other possibilities. A symptom does not identify its cause by itself; a clinician may need to examine the vagina and cervix and discuss testing.

Note when the spotting began, its colour, amount, and whether it followed sex or occurs independently. Use a pad if needed so you can observe the pattern, and avoid putting anything in the vagina if it increases bleeding or discomfort. Arrange a routine appointment if the spotting returns, continues, happens after sex repeatedly, or comes with discharge or pain. If pregnancy is possible, mention that when booking.

Seek urgent medical help for heavy or rapidly increasing bleeding, severe or one-sided pelvic pain, faintness, dizziness, fever, or feeling very unwell. Prompt assessment is also sensible when bleeding occurs with a missed period or possible pregnancy, because the combination needs a pregnancy-focused evaluation.
