Light pink spotting while pregnant

Pregnancy can make the cervix more prone to bleeding, including after sex or an examination. Other possibilities include infection, a threatened miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or later-pregnancy problems that require different evaluation. A pale colour does not show how serious the cause is, and light bleeding does not rule out an urgent condition. Tell your maternity clinician about the bleeding and give the pregnancy stage, colour, amount, and start time. Use a pad or liner to observe changes, and note clots, cramps, fever, dizziness, or shoulder pain. Avoid vaginal insertion if it worsens bleeding. If you have not yet arranged pregnancy care, contact a suitable service and share your medical and pregnancy history.

Seek emergency help for heavy bleeding, severe or one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, severe dizziness, fever, or feeling very unwell. Contact your maternity service promptly if bleeding persists, returns, becomes redder, or is accompanied by cramps. Urgency is guided by warning signs and pregnancy stage, not by the pink colour alone.
