What should you know about light blood spotting after period?

Brown or faint blood can be older blood leaving the vagina after menstrual flow has ended. Spotting can also follow a change in contraception, missed pills, ovulation, or irritation after sex. Cervical or womb conditions are less common but may need excluding when bleeding is persistent, new, or occurring after menopause. Keep a simple cycle record showing the last day of normal flow, the spotting date, colour, amount, and any pain, discharge, or sexual activity. Check whether contraception has changed or doses were missed, and consider pregnancy testing if pregnancy is possible. Book a review if spotting continues across cycles, becomes more frequent, follows sex, or comes with pelvic symptoms. A clinician may offer an examination, pregnancy or infection testing, and imaging when indicated.
