Lichen planus side effects: what to know

The condition may cause itchy bumps or flat patches that leave darker or lighter marks after healing. Affected nails can become ridged, thin, split, or partly detached. Mouth involvement may produce white lines, soreness, or sensitive raw areas; genital involvement can cause irritation or pain. Scalp inflammation may lead to scale, tenderness, or hair loss. Tell a dermatologist about every affected site, including the mouth, nails, scalp, or genital skin. Use prescribed treatment as instructed and avoid scratching, tobacco, fragranced products, and foods that sting sore mouth areas.
