How long does lichen planus last?

Lichen planus may occur as a limited episode or remain active for longer, and symptoms can fluctuate. Itch and raised bumps may improve before residual darker or lighter marks fade. Mouth, scalp, nail and genital involvement may follow a different course from skin lesions. A flare can also be confused with irritation, eczema, infection or a medicine reaction, so an examination helps clarify what is happening. Use treatment consistently as prescribed and attend planned reviews, even if itch improves quickly.
