What should you know about letrozole oral?

Letrozole blocks aromatase, an enzyme involved in making oestrogen. Lower oestrogen can slow the growth of breast cancer cells that respond to this hormone. Your oncology team chooses it based on the cancer’s hormone features and your treatment history. It may be prescribed alone or alongside another part of a treatment plan.

The tablet is swallowed rather than given as an infusion. Oral treatment is still active cancer therapy, so regular reviews matter even when you take it at home.

Follow the label and your oncology team’s instructions. Take it with or without food as advised, and use a routine that supports adherence. If you miss a tablet, do not take extra medicine without checking what your team recommends. Keep a current list of prescriptions, over-the-counter products, and supplements. Let your clinician know about bone weakness, joint conditions, liver problems, high cholesterol, or pregnancy concerns. Hot flushes, sweating, tiredness, sleep changes, joint stiffness, and mood changes should be discussed if they interfere with life.

Call your treatment team about worsening joint or bone pain, difficulty moving, persistent low mood, unexpected bleeding, or symptoms that continue despite simple measures. Get urgent medical help for sudden chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, fainting, facial or throat swelling, or a widespread blistering rash.
