What should you know about letrozole IP 2.5 mg?

The medicine blocks aromatase, an enzyme that helps the body make oestrogen after menopause. Lower oestrogen can slow the growth of some breast cancer cells that respond to this hormone. The strength printed on the pack describes the amount of letrozole in each dose; it does not show how suitable the treatment is for a particular person.

Treatment may continue for a prolonged period, depending on the cancer, previous treatment and the aim of therapy. Joint or muscle aches, hot flushes, tiredness, headache and vaginal dryness can occur. Bone thinning and changes in cholesterol may need attention over time.

Take it exactly as prescribed, at a consistent time, with or without food. Swallow the tablet as directed and do not change the dose or stop suddenly without speaking with the oncology team. If you miss a dose, follow the instructions supplied with your medicine rather than doubling the next dose.

Tell the team about liver disease, osteoporosis, fractures, high cholesterol, pregnancy possibility and every medicine or supplement you take. Contact your oncology team promptly for severe or persistent bone pain, a new fracture, marked weakness, unusual swelling, or symptoms that make daily activities difficult. Seek urgent help for sudden chest pain, trouble breathing, facial swelling, or signs of a severe allergic reaction.
